Microsoft Delays Avowed to 2025

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, clarified that the delay of Obsidian Entertainment's RPG 'Avowed', now set for February 18, 2025, was not due to quality issues but rather a strategic decision to avoid overcrowding the game release schedule. With major titles like Diablo IV's expansion and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launching in late 2024, Spencer emphasized the importance of pacing releases to give players time for their backlogs. He noted that both he and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty consulted with the Game Pass team to ensure a balanced launch schedule. While Obsidian will utilize the extra time afforded by the delay, the studio was reportedly satisfied with the game's current state. 'Avowed' is set in the fantasy world of Eora and promises a lengthy gameplay experience with multiple endings, similar to Obsidian's previous title, 'The Outer Worlds'. Additionally, Spencer hinted at a broader strategy for Xbox regarding future acquisitions and game releases across platforms.
