Joel Delavara, a 36-year-old man from Yuma, Arizona, has been charged with multiple offenses including first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree home invasion after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in her hotel room in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Prosecutors say Delavara was in Michigan for a work conference when he made a copy of the victim's hotel room key and used it to gain entry to her room on August 14, before flying back to Arizona. The victim reported the assault to law enforcement, leading to charges being filed on August 16. Delavara has been released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 19. If convicted, he faces life in prison for the first-degree charge, along with additional penalties for the other charges. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald emphasized the profound impact of such crimes on victims and communities, stating that the Special Victims Unit will ensure accountability.
