North Dakota Man Impersonates ICE Officer, Sparks Jail Incident

Shane Al Randall, a resident of Williston, North Dakota, was arrested for impersonating an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer to facilitate the release of an inmate from the Williams County Correctional Center. The incident, which occurred due to complacency and human error, resulted in the jail staff mistakenly releasing the inmate to Randall. However, within 15 to 20 minutes, the real ICE officer arrived, prompting authorities to apprehend both Randall and the inmate without incident. The sheriff has opted not to take disciplinary action against the staff, noting their remorse and the unlikelihood of a recurrence. Randall, charged with a misdemeanor, is representing himself and has bonded out of jail, with a court appearance scheduled for March. The sheriff's office is considering further charges against the inmate, who was originally detained for driving under suspension and held for ICE.
