Lancashire Parts with Coach Benkenstein, Appoints Croft Interim

Lancashire Cricket has announced the departure of men's head coach Dale Benkenstein by mutual consent following a disappointing start to the 2024 season. After being relegated from Division One last season, Lancashire remains winless in the County Championship and sits near the bottom of Division Two, prompting the club to seek a change to improve on-field performances. Former captain Steven Croft has been appointed as interim head coach, with his first match in charge being Lancashire's Vitality Blast opener against Worcestershire Rapids. Croft, a club legend and experienced player, has been involved with coaching Lancashire's Second XI and Academy and has worked with England Under-19s prospects. The club acknowledged Benkenstein's hard work but emphasized the need for a new direction to reverse the team's fortunes after a challenging period marked by heavy defeats and the recent resignation of captain Keaton Jennings.
