Palestinian, Lebanese Presidents Agree to Disarm Factions, Prevent Attacks from Lebanon

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Beirut for a three-day visit focused on establishing a framework to disarm Palestinian factions within Lebanon, reaffirming the commitment to protect Palestinian rights while reinforcing Lebanese state authority. Abbas met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and other senior officials, agreeing that Palestinian factions will not use Lebanon to launch attacks against Israel and that all weapons must be under Lebanese state control. This agreement marks a significant step toward ending the presence of unauthorized arms in Palestinian refugee camps, which house tens of thousands of Palestinians and have been sites of factional violence. Lebanese officials emphasized that the disarmament policy also targets Hezbollah and that progress should be achieved through dialogue to avoid internal conflict. Hamas has reportedly cooperated with Lebanese authorities by handing over suspects linked to recent rocket attacks, denying involvement in such actions. Both Lebanese and Palestinian leadership stressed the importance of maintaining Lebanese stability and sovereignty while supporting the Palestinian cause and rights within international law frameworks.
