South Bend READI
The Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority has awarded $42.5 million in grant funds to 13 projects across St. Joseph, Elkhart, and Marshall counties, aimed at enhancing the region's quality of life and economic development. The funding, part of the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative 2.0 (READI 2.0), is projected to leverage an additional $613 million in investments. Notable projects include the construction of 284 new residences in the Elkhart River District and the development of a new Culver Community Youth Center to provide essential childcare services. John DeSalle, Chair of the RDA, emphasized the importance of these projects in addressing the region's significant housing needs. The selected projects were chosen from over 50 applications, reflecting a strong commitment to improving local infrastructure and community amenities. This initiative builds on the successes of the previous READI 1.0 program, which has already funded several impactful developments in the area.
