Guillermo del Toro Plans Violent Thriller Fury Starring Oscar Isaac
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, fresh from the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of his gothic sci-fi horror film "Frankenstein" starring Oscar Isaac, announced two new projects. He is currently writing a violent thriller titled "Fury," which reunites him with Isaac and is inspired by the thriller elements of "Nightmare Alley" and the dark tone of "My Dinner with Andre," but with a murderous twist. Del Toro described "Fury" as exploring the various forms of violence humans inflict on each other—mentally, spiritually, and physically—reflecting his personal shift towards themes of regret at age 60. In addition to "Fury," he is developing an epic stop-motion adaptation of Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro's novel "The Buried Giant," which will be a mature, not-for-kids project aiming to fuse the expressive capacity of stop-motion with a live-action feel. "Frankenstein," del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel, is set for a theatrical release on October 17, 2025, followed by a Netflix release in November. This marks a continuation of del Toro's collaboration with Oscar Isaac and a return to darker, more violent storytelling.
