Students Sue Ohio State Over Mold Infestation

Over 50 students and their parents have filed a lawsuit against Ohio State University, claiming negligence after mold and mushrooms were found in the Lawrence Tower residence hall, which they allege the university knew about but failed to disclose. The lawsuit, citing violations of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act, suggests the university misled students about the safety of the dormitory, which was marketed as a 'Rate 1' residence. Parents hired an inspector who discovered mold in 27 of 29 tested rooms, leading to respiratory symptoms among students. Following a water leak in October, the university relocated approximately 500 students from the affected dormitory. The lawsuit seeks damages ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per student, with claims of health issues and property damages. Ohio State has not commented on the ongoing litigation, but acknowledged a water leak contributed to the mold growth.
