General Motors to Join Formula One in 2026
Formula One has reached an agreement in principle with General Motors (GM) to join the racing series as its 11th team, branded as Cadillac, starting in 2026. GM will initially enter as a customer team while developing its own power units for future seasons, with plans for full engine supply by 2028. This partnership aims to enhance F1's growth in the US market, with both F1 leadership and GM executives expressing excitement about the collaboration. Greg Maffei of Liberty Media emphasized that GM's entry could add significant value and interest to the sport, while FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem noted GM's global brand strength. The announcement follows months of dialogue between F1 and GM, confirming operational milestones and commitment from the auto giant. All parties are optimistic about the smooth progression of this agreement as the application process moves forward.
