Man Charged with Arson in Allentown Fire

Santos Mota-Ramirez, a 60-year-old man from Allentown, faces multiple serious charges, including attempted homicide and aggravated arson, following a fire that devastated several rowhomes on Cedar Street. The incident began during a domestic dispute, where Mota-Ramirez allegedly assaulted a woman and attempted to stab her before intentionally setting the house ablaze with gasoline, resulting in flames that quickly spread to six neighboring homes. Firefighters rescued a woman trapped in the basement, and at least three individuals, including a firefighter, were hospitalized due to injuries. The fire, which prompted a third-alarm response, forced the evacuation of around 30 residents and caused significant property damage. Mota-Ramirez is currently in custody with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 3, 2025.
