Multiple U.S. Elementary Schools Conduct Farm-Based Agricultural Education Programs

Various school districts across the U.S. are engaging students with farm-based educational programs to enhance their understanding of agriculture and nutrition. In Oregon, third graders visited a school board member’s farm to harvest vegetables and experience farm life firsthand, culminating in a hayride and cider treat. North Carolina's Alamance County hosts a Farm to Table event where fourth graders learn through multiple stations about local agriculture, conservation, and nutrition, highlighting the significance of farming to their community. Similarly, Caldwell County’s FFA program has been educating third graders about farm operations and food production for nearly 50 years, emphasizing the journey from farm to plate. Holmes County’s fifth graders participate in an annual farm tour that integrates farm experiences with classroom learning through essays and creative contests, fostering a lasting educational impact. Additionally, Holland Public Schools initiated a Pre-K Farm School to provide young students with regular farm visits to enrich their early education.
