VA Plans $800M Infrastructure Upgrades Across Multiple Medical Centers
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is realigning an additional $800 million this fiscal year as part of the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance program to upgrade infrastructure and improve facilities at VA medical centers nationwide. This funding increase, raising the total to $2.8 billion for fiscal year 2025, supports projects such as repairs, technology updates, and construction of new infrastructure at locations including North Las Vegas, Walla Walla, Albuquerque, Wilkes-Barre, and Little Rock VA Medical Centers. VA Secretary Doug Collins emphasized that these improvements aim to enhance care for Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors by ensuring safer and more effective patient care. The VA also highlighted recent accomplishments under the current Trump administration, including a 37% reduction in the backlog of Veterans waiting for benefits and nearly 1 million appointments offered outside normal hours to provide more convenient care. Additional initiatives include opening new clinics, improving access to care from non-VA providers, and reforms to support survivors in securing benefits. These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to modernizing VA facilities and services across the country.
