34% Americans See Increasing Religious Influence, Gallup Finds
Recent Gallup polling reveals a significant shift in American perceptions of religion's role in society, with 34% of U.S. adults now believing religious influence is increasing, up from 20% a year ago. Although a majority of 59% still view religion's influence as waning, this marks a notable decline from 75% last year, reversing a 15-year trend of declining perceived religious influence. The rise in perceived religious influence coincides with the 2024 Republican sweep of Congress and the White House, paralleling similar trends seen after the GOP's 1994 congressional victory, while record lows followed major Democratic wins. Notably, personal religiosity remains steady, with 47% of Americans stating religion is very important in their lives. Analysts also point to recent Christian revival movements on college campuses and national cultural dynamics as contributing factors. President Trump has highlighted this resurgence, asserting that religion is making a comeback in America during his 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll event.
