Leeds United Submits Plans for Elland Road Expansion to 56,500 Capacity

Leeds United has officially submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council to expand and modernize Elland Road Stadium, aiming to increase its capacity from the current 37,645 to between 53,000 and 56,500 seats. The detailed plans include enhancements to the West and North Stands, modifications to the South Stand, and improvements to hospitality, media, and player facilities. The expansion project has received overwhelming public support, with consultation feedback showing 97-99% backing for increased capacity, design plans, and local economic benefits. Club officials emphasize that the development will not only meet the high demand for tickets—reflected in the 26,000-person season ticket waiting list—but also act as a catalyst for economic regeneration in the surrounding area. The project is led by the club's chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg and benefits from the experience of 49ers Enterprises, the majority stakeholder with a history of stadium development.
