Arizona Woman Indicted for Petition Fraud in Abortion Initiative

Michele Brimmer has been indicted for allegedly forging signatures on a petition supporting an abortion rights measure in Arizona, according to Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. Brimmer is accused of submitting nine fraudulent entries between April and June 2024 while gathering signatures for Proposition 139, which passed with 61% of the vote. Although the fraudulent signatures did not affect the measure's qualification for the ballot, Mitchell emphasized that such actions undermine public trust in elections and will not be tolerated. Brimmer faces charges including fraudulent schemes, forgery, and false signatures. Her court date has not been announced, and she could not be reached for comment. Mitchell also highlighted her commitment to integrity in elections and her decision-making process regarding pursuing the death penalty in unrelated high-profile cases.
