Pakistan Super League Moves Season to UAE Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has relocated the remainder of its 10th season to the United Arab Emirates due to escalating tensions and security concerns arising from cross-border conflict between Pakistan and India. This decision followed a drone incident near Rawalpindi Stadium, where a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings was postponed after a drone, claimed by Pakistan to be Indian, fell within the stadium complex, raising safety fears among players, including 37 foreign participants. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with overseas players who largely favored moving the league out of Pakistan, with the PCB working to finalize the new schedule and venues in the UAE. The move comes amid broader military exchanges, including Indian air strikes and drone attacks, which have impacted cricket activities in both countries, with the Indian Premier League also relocating matches due to airport closures and logistical challenges. The safety of players remains the priority, with some foreign players divided on whether to continue in Pakistan before the move, and the UK foreign office advising against travel near the India-Pakistan border. The PSL has previously held matches in the UAE, including its initial seasons and partial 2021 season, facilitating a smoother transition for the remainder of this season.
