The fire department responded around 1:30 a.m. to heavy flames and smoke, facing extreme heat and zero visibility while combating the blaze inside. Firefighters cut ventilation holes in the roof to release heat, but the roof began sagging and partially collapsed, prompting an emergency evacuation; all crews exited safely with no injuries reported. The building's unusual layout made locating the fire's source difficult, but firefighters worked under dangerous conditions with mutual aid from neighboring departments to bring the fire under control by early morning.
