Sioux Falls Man Arrested in Fatal Stabbing

Sioux Falls police say 70-year-old James Lipscomb was stabbed during an argument at a residence near 800 North Dakota Avenue on Sept. 29 and later died at a hospital. Officers, who responded to a weapons-violation call just after 1 p.m., found Lipscomb with serious injuries and reported other people were in the home; some accounts say the men lived together while authorities differ on whether they were related. Fifty-four-year-old Timothy Bellonger was arrested about two hours later, charged with second-degree murder and held on roughly a $1 million bond. According to court documents in one account, Bellonger admitted to stabbing the victim during the argument and has a prior criminal history; police said there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the case is the city’s tenth homicide of 2025. Separately, a jury convicted Kevin Dewayne Bass on multiple felonies stemming from a June 30, 2024 attack; Bass faces sentencing at a later date.
