Avatar: Fire and Ash Trailer Confirms Dec. 19 Release
James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is set for theaters December 19, 2025, and a new trailer introduces the Mangkwan/Ash People and their leader Varang (Oona Chaplin), whose village was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. The trailer frames Varang’s worship of fire and resentment toward Eywa as driving her alliance with Col. Miles Quaritch and human forces, setting up expansive land, sea and air battles. It reveals that Spider (Jack Champion) can breathe Pandora’s air, escalates the human threat, and teases expanded Na’vi mythology, new creatures and large-scale conflicts realized through Weta’s motion-capture and CGI. The film reunites Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang and adds newcomers including Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh, with the Sully family again central to themes of family, loss and generational trauma. 20th Century Studios is promoting the film with a limited 3D re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water ahead of Fire and Ash, and Cameron has scheduled sequels for 2029 and 2031 as expectations for the holiday box-office run build.
