Syracuse Mets Launch Team Renaming for 2027

The Syracuse Mets, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, have announced a team name change set for the 2027 season and are inviting fans to submit suggestions from August 5 to August 31, 2025. Community members will then vote on top submissions in September, with the new name—intended to strengthen local ties—being revealed in fall 2026. The team will retain its orange and royal blue colors and mascot Scooch, and will stay affiliated with the New York Mets through at least 2030. This initiative coincides with the 150th anniversary of professional baseball in Syracuse and builds on the franchise’s tradition of previous names such as the Chiefs and SkyChiefs. The organization welcomes all appropriate, family-friendly name ideas from the public. The name change aims to celebrate Syracuse’s baseball legacy while fostering community involvement.
