Manteca Councilman Cleared of Charges After Shooting Stepson

David Breitenbucher, a Manteca city councilman, will not face charges after shooting his stepson, Landon White, during a confrontation at his home on January 23. Breitenbucher called 911, claiming he shot White in self-defense after being attacked, resulting in injuries to both men. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's office, following an investigation, decided against filing charges against Breitenbucher, while White has been charged with assault with intent to commit great bodily injury. Both men were hospitalized following the incident, with Breitenbucher sustaining a head injury and White being shot in the abdomen. Breitenbucher has served on the council for six years and is a retired city fire captain. The police noted that White did not reside at the home where the incident occurred.
