Sanjeev Sanyal Appointed Chancellor of GIPE

Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, has accepted the role of Chancellor at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune, following the resignation of Bibek Debroy. Debroy stepped down amid a legal dispute involving Vice-Chancellor Ajit Ranade, who was removed from his position but secured interim relief from the Bombay High Court. Sanyal emphasized that his new chancellorship would not interfere with his ongoing responsibilities at the Economic Advisory Council, as the role mainly involves governance rather than daily operations. The Servants Society of India, which manages GIPE, formally offered Sanyal the position, expressing confidence in his leadership. Sanyal, who has a distinguished background in economics and finance, aims to enhance GIPE's legacy during his five-year term starting October 7. This transition reflects ongoing administrative challenges at GIPE amidst legal and governance issues.
