Toyota to Open U.S. Battery Plant in 2025

Toyota is set to open its first battery manufacturing plant in North Carolina, the Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC), in April 2025, following a $14 billion investment. This facility, Toyota's 11th in the U.S. and its first battery plant outside Japan, will produce batteries for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles, creating around 5,000 jobs. Concurrently, Toyota plans to establish a wholly-owned factory in Shanghai, China, by 2027 to produce Lexus-branded electric vehicles, further strengthening its market presence in China. These initiatives are part of Toyota's broader commitment to supporting carbon neutrality and adapting to diverse global markets. Toyota's total U.S. investment now stands at $49 billion, supporting over 280,000 jobs in the industry.
