FCT Teachers, LG Workers Resume Indefinite Strike Over N70,000 Wage

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have resumed an indefinite strike across the Federal Capital Territory's six Area Councils due to the non-implementation of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage. This decision follows a previous suspension of their strike in December 2024 after the council chairmen agreed to implement the wage by January 2025, which has not occurred. The unions express disappointment that primary school teachers and local government staff have not received the new wage, while other civil servants in the FCT have. In addition to the minimum wage issue, they are also demanding the resolution of other outstanding benefits, including salary increases and allowances. Union leaders have urged members to remain united in their fight for fair treatment and their rights. The strike is expected to significantly impact local government services and primary schools in the FCT.
