Since the onset of the Ukraine war in February 2022, Serbia has seen an influx of over 30,000 Russians, many fleeing conflict, conscription, or political repression. This migration has led to the establishment of a vibrant Russian community in Belgrade, characterized by Russian-owned businesses, cultural events, and a growing number of residents. Professional ice skater Vadim Morus, who relocated from Moscow, highlights the cultural ties that draw Russians to Serbia, where he has found ample opportunities to teach Serbian students. The presence of Russians is felt acutely in Belgrade, which has become a hub for various services catering to this community, including kindergartens and medical practices. Despite the smaller number of arrivals compared to other European countries, the establishment of over 11,000 businesses signifies the community's integration. Interviews reveal that many immigrants have left Russia for ideological reasons, seeking a different environment in Serbia.
