Man Killed in Officer-Involved Downtown Colorado Springs Shooting

Early Saturday morning in downtown Colorado Springs, police fatally shot a man who was reported to be armed and behaving suspiciously near East Pikes Peak Avenue and Tejon Street. Officers, monitoring the area via downtown cameras, identified a man matching the description who appeared to have a firearm. When officers approached the suspect, he ran while reaching toward his waistband, prompting an officer to fire and strike him. Despite medical aid provided on scene, the man died, and no other injuries were reported. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation in accordance with Colorado law, and police have asked anyone with information to contact them. The incident marks the city's second officer-involved shooting in two weeks and led to road closures and ongoing police activity in the area.
