Idaho AG Reviews Police Shooting of Victor Perez
The fatal police shooting of 17-year-old Victor Perez, who had cerebral palsy and autism, in Pocatello, Idaho, has drawn community outrage and national attention. Police body-camera and security footage show officers shooting Perez nine times after responding to a 911 call reporting he was armed with a knife during a prolonged altercation with his family. The city released edited video footage but cited pending litigation—stemming from a wrongful death claim filed by Perez's family represented by a prominent civil rights law firm—as a reason for not answering press questions. The Bannock County Prosecuting Attorney requested an independent review, and Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador has agreed to review the case after the Eastern Idaho Critical Incident Taskforce completes its investigation. The Attorney General's office is withholding further comment until the investigation concludes. Community members continue to seek accountability and support for Perez's family.
