Chad Thwarts Attack on Presidential Palace

Chadian security forces successfully thwarted an attempted attack on the presidential compound in N'Djamena, involving a disorganized group of 24 intoxicated assailants armed with knives and machetes. Government spokesperson Abderaman Koulamallah reported that the attackers, who seemed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol, managed to injure two guards and kill one before security forces responded, killing 18 and detaining six. Koulamallah emphasized that the incident was not classified as a terrorist attack, describing the situation as a 'minor incident' that was under control. This incident coincided with a visit from China's Foreign Minister, highlighting Chad's shifting international alliances after ending a defense pact with France.
