Nevada's Attorney General Aaron Ford has filed lawsuits against Meta, Snap, ByteDance, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, alleging that these platforms have created an 'addiction machine' that deliberately exploits children. The lawsuits, filed in Clark County District Court, argue these platforms use features such as endless scrolling, dopamine-inducing rewards, push notifications, and deceptive marketing to addict and manipulate young users. These practices have reportedly led to a wide range of issues including mental health problems, body image concerns, physical health issues, eating disorders, self-harm, sexual exploitation, and auto accidents. The lawsuits have been influenced by revelations from a Meta whistleblower last year regarding the harmful impact of the companies' platforms on young people.
