Rescue Underway After Los Angeles Tunnel Collapse
An industrial tunnel in Wilmington, Los Angeles, collapsed Wednesday night, trapping up to 15 workers as far as six miles from the sole access point. The incident occurred at a site related to the Los Angeles Effluent Outfall Tunnel project, which is intended to repair aging sewage infrastructure. Over 100 emergency responders, including specialized Urban Search and Rescue teams, have been deployed to manage the rescue. No injuries have been confirmed so far, and communication has been hampered by noise from media helicopters, prompting officials to ask media to keep a distance. Mayor Karen Bass confirmed the mobilization of all available city resources to aid in the ongoing emergency response. Public updates continue as rescue efforts remain underway.
