Brwa Shorsh, a 24-year-old Kurdish migrant with a significant criminal history, was found guilty of attempted murder after pushing Tadeusz Potoczek, a 61-year-old postman, onto the tracks at Oxford Circus Tube station. The incident occurred on February 3, and Shorsh claimed he acted out of 'revenge' for what he perceived as a 'dirty look' from Potoczek. At the time of the attack, Shorsh was appealing a deportation order related to a series of sex crimes and other offences, having accumulated 12 convictions for 21 different crimes since arriving in the UK in 2019. Fortunately, Potoczek narrowly avoided serious injury, thanks to the quick action of another passenger and the train driver, who applied the emergency brakes just in time. Shorsh is scheduled to be sentenced on September 26, and faces the possibility of life imprisonment and a deportation order. This case raises concerns about the effectiveness of the UK's immigration enforcement and the thresholds for deportation.
