The investigation will examine allegations of fraud, waste, and improper use of taxpayer-provided funds, in addition to the company's inadequate emergency response, which left over 2.2 million Houston residents without power and led to at least 15 hyperthermia deaths. CenterPoint faced criticism for failing to deploy $200 million worth of mobile generators purchased for emergency scenarios and for significant delays in power restoration. The Public Utility Commission of Texas is also conducting an investigation. CenterPoint has responded by launching a new initiative to improve infrastructure resilience and emergency coordination. The company has committed to accelerating its timeline for strengthening the electric grid and enhancing customer communications.
