Deputy Mayor Resigns Amid Adams' Corruption Scandal

Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright is the latest in a string of high-level resignations from New York City Mayor Eric Adams's administration amid a broadening federal corruption investigation. Wright, whose home was raided by federal agents last month, is succeeded by Maria Torres-Springer, who will also continue her role as deputy mayor for housing and economic development. The investigation has already led to the indictment of several officials, including Mohamed Bahi for witness tampering. Wright's resignation follows closely behind those of Philip Banks III and David Banks, both of whom faced federal scrutiny. Mayor Adams, who has been indicted on charges including bribery, maintains his innocence and has not stepped down. Governor Kathy Hochul has urged Adams to take responsibility and make necessary changes within his administration.
