Norwegian Man Files GDPR Complaint Against OpenAI

Arve Hjalmar Holmen, a Norwegian man, has lodged a complaint against OpenAI after ChatGPT falsely accused him of murdering his two sons and included accurate personal details alongside a false claim that he was serving a 21-year prison sentence. This prompted Holmen to contact Noyb, an Austrian digital rights group, which filed a formal complaint with Norway’s Data Protection Authority, arguing that the false information violates GDPR regulations requiring data accuracy. OpenAI acknowledged the issue, noting it pertains to an older version of ChatGPT and stating that updates have been made to improve accuracy.
