Las Vegas Sands withdraws casino plan from Irving resort proposal

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has requested the Irving City Council to withdraw the casino component from its proposed development near the former Texas Stadium, amid public opposition and the current illegality of gambling in Texas. During a workshop, executive Mark Boekenheide indicated that the decision to remove the casino element was influenced by community concerns and the status of gaming legislation. The revised proposal aims to focus on a high-density mixed-use area that includes retail, residential spaces, a hotel, and an arena, contingent on zoning approval. Earlier this week, the City Council had narrowly approved initial proposals for the development area, suggesting potential plans could still advance without the gaming aspect. The council is set to vote on the amended zoning proposal, which excludes casino gaming. This shift reflects the company's attempt to address community feedback while still pursuing the overall development project.
