Coronation Street actor John Saint Ryan dies at 72
John Saint Ryan, best known for his role as Charlie Whelan in 'Coronation Street', has passed away at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack on April 3. His wife Joyce confirmed the news on Facebook, expressing their heartbreak and sharing that John had chosen to donate his body for medical research, thus there will be no funeral. Born in Burnley, Lancashire, in 1953, Saint Ryan began his career as a martial arts teacher before moving into acting, with early roles including a stunt double for Sean Connery. He portrayed lorry driver Charlie Whelan from 1993 to 1994 and was also involved in various other television series and films, including 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. In addition to acting, he trained horses and riders, winning several titles in Spanish-style horse riding. He is survived by his wife and three sons, with plans for a celebration of his life to be held later.
