Libya Eastern Government Warns Force Majeure on Oil Fields, Ports
Libya's eastern-based government, which is not internationally recognized, has warned it may declare force majeure on oil fields and export terminals under its control due to alleged repeated assaults on the National Oil Corporation (NOC). The eastern government has suggested temporarily relocating the NOC's headquarters from Tripoli to safer cities like Ras Lanuf or Brega, both within its territory. However, the Tripoli-based NOC, under the internationally recognized Government of National Unity, strongly denies these claims, describing reports of assaults or storming of its headquarters as "completely false" and attributing any disturbances to a minor personal dispute with no impact on operations. The NOC reassures that oil production and export operations continue smoothly and without interruption, despite recent political tensions and past disruptions caused by rival factions. Libya's oil output remains critical, with daily production around 1.3 million barrels per day, although the country has faced significant shutdowns in recent years amid ongoing conflict between eastern and western authorities. This situation highlights the fragile security environment surrounding Libya's vital energy sector as international companies cautiously return following years of civil war-related disruptions.
