Wayne Rooney has mutually agreed to part ways with Plymouth Argyle after a disappointing seven-month tenure, during which the team recorded only four wins in 23 league matches and currently sits at the bottom of the Championship. Following a 2-0 defeat to Oxford United, which prompted chants for his dismissal from fans, Rooney expressed gratitude towards the club's board and staff in his farewell message, emphasizing the special bonds formed during his time. Alongside Rooney, assistant coach Mike Phelan and first team coach Simon Ireland will also leave the club. Rooney took over in May, succeeding Ian Foster, but struggled to secure consistent victories, and his last game ended in defeat. He highlighted the memories shared with fans and staff, stating that Plymouth will always hold a special place in his heart.
