South Bay Two Arrested Carrying Five Kilograms Fentanyl

San Diego County Sheriff's detectives arrested 19-year-old Martin Corona and a 13-year-old boy in Chula Vista after seizing five kilograms of powdered fentanyl during a surveillance operation aimed at combating cross-border narcotics smuggling. The incident occurred near Third and Orange avenues when Corona handed the backpack containing the fentanyl to the juvenile, who then entered a nearby liquor store. The juvenile was stopped for a truancy check, which led to the discovery of the drugs. Corona, already on probation for felony narcotics convictions, now faces charges including narcotics trafficking, child endangerment, and conspiracy. The juvenile was cited and released to his parents' custody, with his identity protected due to his age. Authorities emphasized the ongoing efforts to thwart drug smuggling in the region and maintained privacy for the minor involved.
