German and Polish authorities arrested eight members of a right-wing extremist group, known as the 'Saxonian Separatists', accused of plotting to overthrow the government and establishing a regime inspired by National Socialism. Formed in November 2020, the group comprises 15 to 20 individuals motivated by racist, anti-Semitic, and apocalyptic ideologies, who believe in an impending societal collapse they term 'Day X'. The arrests followed raids across Germany, Poland, and Austria, involving over 450 security officers. The group engaged in paramilitary training and procured military equipment, planning ethnic cleansing to remove 'unwanted groups'. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser lauded the thwarting of their coup plans at an early stage, drawing parallels with the 2022 'Reichsbürger' case, which also aimed to overthrow the state. Those apprehended face charges of participating in a domestic terrorist organization.
