Susquehanna County Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Troopers Hurt
In Thompson Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, 61-year-old Carmine Faino fatally shot his neighbor, 57-year-old Lori Wasko, before ambushing responding state troopers William Jenkins and Joseph Perechinsky with a semi-automatic long gun. Faino, taking up a tactically advantageous position, wounded Jenkins in both arms and Perechinsky in the torso. Perechinsky administered first aid to Jenkins and commandeered a tractor-trailer to shield others from gunfire. The confrontation ended in a standoff during which officers ultimately killed Faino after he refused to surrender. Neighbors reported seeing Faino acting suspiciously with firearms in the days leading up to the attack, but their concerns were not addressed. The motive remains under investigation, and the community is expressing strong support for the recovering troopers.
