Remains of Fort Lauderdale Man Missing Since 2015 Found in Boca Raton Pond
The remains of Steven MacKrell, who disappeared in 2015 at age 25, were found in his submerged white Ford Fusion in a Boca Raton pond near Interstate 95, closing a decade-long missing persons case. Steven was last seen after leaving Lucky’s Tavern in Fort Lauderdale and was captured on surveillance footage purchasing snacks and having a confrontation at a Pompano Beach gas station. His car was discovered by Sunshine State Sonar, a private search group specializing in underwater recoveries, in collaboration with Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton police. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner confirmed the remains using dental records, though the circumstances leading to Steven and his vehicle being in the lake remain under investigation. Steven left behind an 11-year-old daughter and family members who have long sought answers, now finding some closure after years of searching. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the night of his disappearance to come forward.
