Man Pleads Not Guilty in Farm Animal Killings

Vicente Joseph Arroyo, 39, has pleaded not guilty to charges including animal cruelty after a three-hour shooting spree in Prunedale, California, which resulted in the death of 81 animals. Arroyo, who lived in a camper next to the lot where the animals were housed, allegedly used multiple weapons to kill miniature horses, goats, chickens, and other animals. The incident prompted a shelter-in-place order and a SWAT team response due to the dark and vegetated environment. Arroyo was arrested without further incident, and a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition was seized from his trailer. His attorney has raised concerns about Arroyo's mental competency, leading to a court-ordered mental health evaluation. Arroyo remains in custody with bail set at $1 million.
