From April 26 to 28, 2025, Texas will hold its annual Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday, allowing residents to buy emergency supplies like batteries, flashlights, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, coolers, fuel containers, and generators tax-free. The event is timed to help Texans prepare for disasters such as hurricanes and severe storms. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items, though some exclusions apply and shipping costs may affect tax eligibility. No exemption certificate is needed for purchases, including online orders. Governor Abbott and Comptroller Glenn Hegar are encouraging residents to take advantage of the savings, which are estimated to total $2.3 million in state and local sales taxes.
