UK Imposes New Sanctions on Russia

The UK has imposed a new set of sanctions targeting 56 individuals and entities linked to Russia, including Denis Sergeev, a GRU agent involved in the 2018 Novichok poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. This marks the largest sanctions package in 18 months, as it also targets suppliers supporting Russia's military and mercenary groups in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as those linked to the Wagner Group. Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that these measures aim to disrupt Russia's military resources and combat its malign activities globally. Sergeev, who operated under the alias Sergey Fedotov, is the third individual charged in connection with the poisoning, which left a police officer seriously ill and resulted in the death of Dawn Sturgess. The sanctions specifically address entities supplying machine tools, microelectronics, and drone components from countries like China and Turkey. The UK government continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
