Swave Photonics Secures €27 Million Funding

Swave Photonics NV, a Belgian startup specializing in augmented reality (AR) displays, has successfully raised €27 million in a Series A funding round, bringing its total funding to over €37 million. The round was co-led by imec.xpand and SFPIM Relaunch, with participation from several other investors including Murata Electronics. Swave's flagship product, the Holographic eXtended Reality (HXR) platform, utilizes sub-wavelength pixels and phase-change materials to create high-resolution holographic images, addressing existing challenges in AR technology like size, weight, and visual fatigue. The company aims to enhance the user experience for AI-powered AR smartglasses and heads-up displays. Swave's technology, which has been under development for over a decade, boasts 60 core patents and represents a significant advancement in the field of holographic displays. Plans to showcase this technology at CES 2025 have been announced, indicating a push towards commercialization.
