Ronny Deila Named Head Coach of Atlanta United

Atlanta United has appointed Ronny Deila as their new head coach following the departure of Gonzalo Pineda. Deila, who previously led New York City FC to an MLS Cup victory in 2021, was recently dismissed from his role at UAE club Al Wahda. Club President Garth Lagerwey expressed confidence in Deila's experience and style aligning with Atlanta's vision for competing at the top of the Eastern Conference. This marks Deila's return to MLS after a challenging stint in Belgium and the UAE, where he faced difficulties at Standard Liège and Club Brugge. Atlanta United is also looking to strengthen its roster, having two designated player slots available and undergoing a $23 million expansion of its training facility. Deila's challenge will be to improve a team that barely made the playoffs last season and to maximize the club's considerable resources.
