The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded the recall of Palmer Candy Company's 'White Coated Confectionary Items' to Class I, its highest level, due to potential Salmonella contamination. These products, including pretzels, cookies, and snack mixes, were sold nationwide at Walmart, Target, Dollar General, HyVee, and other stores. The recall, initially issued in May, was prompted by the discovery that the liquid coating on these items could be contaminated. Despite the severity of the recall, no illnesses have been reported so far. Salmonella can cause severe illness, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The affected products have expiration dates ranging from November 2024 to April 2025.
