Huddersfield Giants Propose Purchase of The Shay Stadium

Ken Davy, owner of Huddersfield Giants, has proposed to purchase The Shay stadium, currently home to Halifax Panthers and FC Halifax Town, enabling the Giants to relocate there temporarily from 2026 while a new stadium is developed in Huddersfield. Davy's plans include significant renovations to bring the stadium up to Super League standards, featuring a new hybrid pitch and improved facilities funded by external grants. This proposal comes as Calderdale Council prepares to cease management of the stadium by April 2025 to reduce financial burdens, with two proposals for the ground under consideration, including Davy's and one from local supporters. The upgrades aim to enhance the matchday experience for all teams involved and secure a long-term future for the stadium as a community asset. Davy emphasized that while the renovations may be costly, they represent an ideal interim solution as the Giants pursue a new facility. The construction of the new pitch is expected to begin in summer 2025, pending approval of the proposal.
