NHL Teams Honor Gaudreau Brothers with Decals
The NHL will honor Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau by having all 32 teams wear helmet decals featuring a 'G' flanked by Johnny's No. 13 and Matthew's No. 21 throughout the start of the 2024-25 season. This tribute will be in place until October 24, with the decals debuting during the NHL's global series in Prague. Johnny Gaudreau, a former player for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, and his brother Matthew were tragically killed by a car while bicycling in New Jersey. Additionally, Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins will honor Johnny with a custom mask design, and the team will maintain Johnny's locker stall and wear his No. 13 patch all season. The Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames have also held candlelight vigils and moments of silence in remembrance of the brothers. The Philadelphia Flyers have invited the Gaudreaus' father to join the team as a guest coach.
